בני ישראל נקראו [במלאכי ג,יב] "ארץ חפץ", שיש בהם כמה חפצים יקרים באהבת השי"ת ויראתו ומידות טובות, ואין דבר גילוי המידות הטובות תלוי אלא במעורר. דבר ברור הוא, אשר בכל חלקי האדמה נמצאים מעינות מים חיים, וההבדל הוא רק בקירוב וריחוק, ואם כן הלא הכל תלוי בהחופר וכח סבלנותו ומתינותו. וכיון שהרצון הוא כח עליון הגוזר ומפקד על כל הכוחות, עיקר העבודה הוא לעורר את הרצון לפעול ולעשות הן בעצמו הן בזולתו.

Hayom Yom (היום יום, “day by day”) is an anthology of Chassidic aphorisms and customs with one entry for every day of the Hebrew year. It was compiled in 1942 by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, at the instruction of his father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe.
