חיי האדם תלויים באויר שמסביבו. בלי אויר אי אפשר, ולפי סוג האויר שנושמים - כך הם החיים. כאשר חיים באויר של תורה ומצוות - אלו חיים בריאים. הרפואה הכללית הראשונה לכך היא לטהר את האויר. המשימה של טיהור האויר רובצת על יודעי ספר ויודעי תורה. כשנמצאים בחנות, הולכים ברחוב, נוסעים ברכבת - ואומרים אותיות של תורה, מטהרים בכך את האויר. על כל אחד מיודעי תורה לזכור כלשהו בעל-פה: חומש, תהלים, משניות, תניא - כך שבכל הזדמנות ובכל מקום יוכל לחשוב ולומר האותיות הקדושות שבתורה.

Hayom Yom (היום יום, “day by day”) is an anthology of Chassidic aphorisms and customs with one entry for every day of the Hebrew year. It was compiled in 1942 by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, at the instruction of his father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe.
