"סור מרע ועשה טוב בקש שלום ורדפהו". פירש הבעש"ט: בכל דבר גשמי מהדברים המותרים ישנו טוב ורע: הגשמי הוא רע, והחיות האלוקי המחיה את הגשמי - הוא טוב. על האדם המשתמש בגשמי להיות 'סור מרע' - לא לרצות בתענוג הנמצא בגשמי. 'בקש שלום ורדפהו' - האדם שהוא [בבחינת] 'סור מרע ועשה טוב' צריך לרדוף ולבקש לעשות שלום בין הגשמי לבין חיות האלוקי שמחייהו.

Hayom Yom (היום יום, “day by day”) is an anthology of Chassidic aphorisms and customs with one entry for every day of the Hebrew year. It was compiled in 1942 by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, at the instruction of his father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe.
